Booking & Referrals FAQ’s

Do I need a GP referral to book a scan?

No. While we accept referrals from GPs and consultants, we also offer a self-referral service for many scan types under our Non-Medical Referral Policy.

Specifically for adults aged 18+ for selected scans, such as Musculoskeletal MRI and non-emergency Neurological imaging, our clinical team will review your request to ensure the scan is appropriate for your symptoms.

What types of scans can I book myself?

Under our self-referral policy, you can book scans for:

  • MSK: Spine, upper limbs and lower limbs.
  • Neurological: Non-emergency Brain MRI for headaches or dizziness.
  • Whole Body: General wellness and diagnostic scans.
Are there any scans you do not offer via self-referral?

Yes. We cannot accept self-referrals for children under 18, emergency conditions such as suspected strokes, or scans requiring contrast-enhanced injections.

If you require a referral for your scan, we can provide an appointment with a private GP at an additional cost.

Is this service available to NHS patients?

We are currently a dedicated private diagnostic provider. This allows us to offer rapid appointment times, often within 24–48 hours, without the usual clinical waiting lists.

Availability to NHS patients will be coming soon.

How do I pay for my scan?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, including payment plans from providers like Klarna, ClearPay or PayPal. Private health insurances are not supported yet.

What makes our scanner different?

We utilise a Siemens Wide Bore scanner. Traditional MRI machines can feel cramped; a Wide Bore design provides significantly more headspace and a wider opening.

This is the gold standard for patient comfort and is ideal for larger patients or those who feel anxious in confined spaces.

Is it suitable for sports injuries?

Absolutely. While we provide a full range of general diagnostic imaging, including brain, spine and abdominal scans, our location and technology are optimised for musculoskeletal and sports imaging.

This provides the high-resolution detail required by elite athletes and specialists.

Where do I go when I arrive?

The MRI unit is a relocatable suite located at AMT Headingley Stadium, home of the Leeds Rhinos. Upon arrival, please head to the MRI unit and let our staff know you have arrived. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early. Arriving more than 15 minutes late may result in cancellation.

Are there facilities for relatives or waiting patients?

Yes. Patients have access to the stadium’s indoor waiting area and cafeteria. Fully accessible toilets are also available on-site.

Is there parking?

Yes, dedicated parking is available for patients. Specific parking instructions will be provided in your booking confirmation email.

Can someone come with me?

Yes, you may bring someone with you. They may be able to wait in the stadium facilities while your scan takes place.

Safety & Preparation

Who should NOT have an MRI?

Certain medical implants or metal fragments may prevent us from safely carrying out your scan. This includes pacemakers, certain cochlear implants, programmable shunts, nerve stimulators, metallic fragments in the eyes, or shrapnel injuries where metal remains in place. If you are unsure, please contact us before booking.

What should I wear?

Please wear loose, metal-free clothing with no zips, jewellery or underwired bras. We will provide a gown if your clothing is unsuitable.

Is the scan noisy?

Yes. MRI machines naturally produce loud knocking or buzzing sounds. We provide ear protection and music to help make you as comfortable as possible.

What does the scan feel like?

MRI is painless and non-invasive. You will need to stay still while the images are taken, and you may hear loud tapping or buzzing noises during the scan.

How long will I be there?

The scan itself typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes per body part. Please arrive 15 minutes early to complete your safety screening.

Can I have an MRI if I am claustrophobic?

Please let us know before your appointment if you are claustrophobic or anxious. Our team will do everything possible to support you and make the experience as calm as possible.

Results & Payments

How and when will I get my results?

Your scan will be reviewed by a qualified Consultant Radiologist or reporting radiographer. Results are usually available via a secure online portal within 72 hours. Faster turnaround options may be available at additional cost.

How quickly will I receive my results?

A specialist will review your images, and a detailed report will typically be sent to you or your clinician within 24–72 hours depending on the service requested.

What happens if you find something urgent?

If a scan reveals a serious or urgent finding, our radiologists will follow an escalation pathway. We will contact you immediately and advise you to seek medical attention or consult your GP.

What is your cancellation policy?

Rescheduling is free if you contact us at least 24 hours before your appointment. Rescheduling within 24 hours may incur a £25 administration fee. Cancellations with at least 48 hours’ notice are eligible for a refund minus a £25 administration fee. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice, missed appointments or late arrivals are non-refundable.

Clinical rejection: If we decline your scan for safety reasons after reviewing your form, a full refund will be issued. If we decline your scan because of an undisclosed condition or implant, a partial refund minus administrative fees may be issued.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can self-refer for many scans. Some scan types or clinical circumstances may still require referral information, and our team will advise you if needed.

How do I pay for my scan?

Payment is usually completed as part of the booking process. Clear pricing is shown before you confirm your appointment.
