Safety & Preparation

What to wear, MRI safety and what the scan feels like.

Certain medical implants or metallic objects may prevent us from safely proceeding with an MRI scan. These may include:

  • Pacemakers, including MR Unsafe and some MR Conditional models.
  • Certain cochlear implants, programmable shunts or nerve stimulators.
  • Metallic fragments in the eyes or retained shrapnel.
Please tell us about all implants All medical implants, previous surgery and possible metal fragments must be declared during the booking and safety screening process.

Please wear loose, comfortable, metal-free clothing. Avoid clothing containing zips, metallic fasteners, jewellery or underwire bras.

A gown will be provided if your clothing is not suitable for the scan.

MRI scanners naturally produce loud knocking, tapping and buzzing sounds while images are being taken.

We provide hearing protection and headphones with music to make the experience more comfortable.

MRI is a painless, non-invasive procedure. You will need to remain as still as possible while the images are taken.

You will hear a series of loud tapping or buzzing sounds, but our radiographers will remain in contact with you throughout the scan.

The scan itself typically takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes per body part.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment so that the team can complete your final safety screening and prepare you for the scan.

Results & Payments

Reporting times, urgent findings and appointment policies.

Your scan will be reviewed by a qualified Consultant Radiologist or reporting radiographer.

Results are made available through a secure online portal, normally within 72 hours. Faster reporting options may be available at an additional cost.

If a scan reveals a serious or urgent finding, our radiologists will follow the appropriate escalation pathway.

We will contact you promptly and advise you to seek medical attention or consult your GP where appropriate.

Rescheduling is free of charge when you contact us at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Rescheduling within 24 hours may incur a £25 administration fee unless there is an urgent reason for the change.

Cancellations made with at least 48 hours’ notice may be eligible for a refund, minus a £25 administration fee.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice, missed appointments or late arrival may be non-refundable.

Clinical rejection

If your scan is declined for safety reasons following review of information declared during booking, a full refund will be issued.

Where previously undisclosed information or an implant prevents the scan from proceeding, a partial refund, minus applicable administration fees, may be issued.

A specialist Consultant Radiologist will review your images and prepare a detailed report.

Reports are typically sent to you or your clinician within 24 to 72 hours, depending on the reporting service selected.
